I wanted to discuss the benefits of a night routine because I’ve dealt with the issue of not sleeping well, having sleepless nights and not falling asleep right away. When these things happen, I don’t want to wake up, I wake up cranky and even more sleepy than usual. It’s not a good combo honestly, and I’m sure I’m not the only one whose experienced this.
The reason for this happening could be either stress, or being constantly on your phone and not allowing your body to slow down prior to hitting your bed but expecting it to automatically collapse the minute you do hit it (the bed), which in turn makes you even more cranky and restless, resulting in long sleepless nights…. Constantly.
It can potentially become an endless cycle, and I personally believe it is harmful for our health and happiness. Wouldn’t you agree?
I have a night routine that is very helpful and helps me sleep like a baby through the entire night & I thought it would be nice to share what I do to help me so that hopefully, it can help you…IF you have sleepless nights.
First, I set the mood, get my bed ready and start preparing my body for bed. This can be done with a little stretching, and fixing your bed sheets.
Second, I have a humidifier/oil diffuser and turn it on with lavender essential oil. Lavender is known for relaxation. Which is essential for a great night routine.
Third: GET RID OF BLUE LIGHTS. I’m not an expert in this but aside from the fact that blue light is bad you. It’s also a way to tell your body to stay awake. AGAIN, I’m not an expert in this but I believe it can suppress the secretion of melatonin during the evening, when you need it to increase. What I have for this is orange glasses and a red lamp. Red light helps me sleep better and I think there is information out there that states red light is good/useful for better sleep.
Fourth: Get yourself a white noise machine that helps to block out outside noise. I’m a light sleeper, absolutely anything wakes me up and having one of these bad boys helps me block out anything that will wake me up. My younger brother sleeps in the other room and we don’t have very thick walls. Usually, when he sets his alarm to wake him up early. it wakes HIM up early. not me. #blessed.
Fifth: Get yourself a radio that can give you ocean sounds and turns off at a certain time. (you don’t want it to wake you up in the morning… you want to do this naturally). It’s an addition for relaxation.
Aside from taking a nice warm bath prior to all of these tips, another tip that’s really important to sleeping throughout the entire night is to not drink water right before going to bed. This one will automatically wake you up, and what we want is to stay asleep for 8 hours. Usually I cut off 2 hours prior and if I have to… make sure I use the restroom prior to sleeping.
